Please note that the following are the best methods that we are currently aware of for searching probate in each Australian state and territory. This is not intended as a comprehensive list and there may be other search methods we are not aware of. If you notice any errors or have suggestions, please email info@bequestassist.com.au

VIC Gazettes
  • Search the notice database for all Victorian notice advertisements (from the last 3 years only - older notice advertisements are archived with the Probate Office).
  • Notice for newer estates may show the Grant of Probate details with the relevant notice once issued.
  • For older estates, use the grant search to confirm the grant date.
  • Check the Victoria Government Gazette if needed.
 If you can obtain the grant notice, enter the Probate number and Unique Identifier into Redcrest for a free copy (Will only).
NSW NSW Notice
  • Notice advertisements are published.
  • Probate applications are not be published online.
 In the Notice search, estate administrators may also publish a notice of 'Intended Distribution of an Estate' which may list the date the Probate Grant was issued.

  • Check both old and new Queensland search sites.
  • For grants, search using deceased details and select "Deceased".
SA SA Probate Must register before searching. Copy of Will provided for free via email.
WA WA Probate *when you have DOD
WA Gazettes
  • Use Gazette search if only the deceased’s name is known.
  • Use probate search if you know the date of death.

ACT ACT Probate
  • Available for documents from 1 March 2022 onwards.
  • Includes probate, administration and reseal applications.
  • Information only visible for a limited time.
TAS TAS Notice
  • Shows notice of intention to apply.
  • Grants may not be published.
